The solution is the pourable version of the same active ingredient. It carries 0.2% nitrofurazone in a water-soluble base, and because it is a liquid rather than an ointment it wets into gauze and reaches surfaces an ointment will not spread across evenly. That makes it the choice for irregular areas and for wounds you are bandaging. Apply it directly to the lesion, or wet a gauze pad and lay that on, changing the dressing as the label and the wound call for. The water-soluble base means it comes away at a dressing change without dragging at new tissue. Four litres is a barn or clinic quantity. Decant into a smaller labelled bottle for daily work and keep the jug capped and stored somewhere it will not freeze. Nitrofurazone products carry a hard restriction: not for animals that produce food or that are intended for consumption as food, and that includes horses destined for slaughter for human consumption. Wear gloves, follow the label directions, and get your veterinarian involved with any wound you are not confident about rather than working through it alone.
