The 500 mL bottle is the first-aid-kit size: enough to keep in the truck, the tack room and the house without committing to a litre you will still be working through in three years. Same product as the larger jug — a chloroxylenol antiseptic that clouds when diluted — just in a bottle that fits a kit. Its strength is versatility at low cost. Diluted per the label, it cleans minor cuts, scrapes and grazes, wipes down surfaces, and goes into wash water where soap alone is not enough. Its weakness is that it is a general-purpose antiseptic rather than a specialist: for surgical scrub work, teat dipping or navel dipping, a product formulated and registered for that job — chlorhexidine or an iodine teat dip — will do it better and more predictably. Dilute it according to the label for whatever you are doing. The ratios differ between wound cleaning and surface disinfection by a wide margin, and stronger is not better. Neat product on skin stings and dries without cleaning any more effectively. Important caution: this is a phenolic disinfectant, and phenolics are genuinely toxic to cats, which cannot metabolize them the way other species do. Keep it off cats, out of their bedding, and off surfaces they walk on and then groom. It is also toxic to fish. Keep it out of eyes and away from mucous membranes, and do not rely on it for a deep or dirty wound — that needs proper attention. Store capped, upright, and out of reach of children.
