Half the jobs in a barn want a barrier between your hands and whatever you are handling, but not so much glove that you lose the feel of the work. Drenching, mixing disinfectant, pulling a sample, cleaning up after a calving — a thin exam glove makes the job cleaner without making it clumsy. These are 100 percent nitrile at 3 mil, light blue, powder-free and latex-free, with textured fingertips for grip on wet or greasy work. They are ambidextrous, so there is no sorting through the box, and they come a hundred to a box in medium and large. Nitrile handles grease and water well and stands up to a reasonable range of common chemicals, which is why it has largely displaced latex in farm and veterinary use. They are rated for light to medium duty, though. If you are decanting concentrate or handling solvents, reach for a proper chemical glove instead. They are single use by design. Buy them by the box and keep one in the truck, one in the calving pen and one by the med fridge, and you stop rationing them.
