There are animals on every operation that cannot be brought to a chute. One out on pasture, one that will not be caught without a rodeo, or one where the stress of restraint is the bigger problem. Remote delivery is the answer to that specific situation, and it is a piece of equipment rather than a shortcut around decent handling facilities. The DR1 runs on CO2 from a 12 oz tank and can also be converted to run on compressed air. Power is adjustable, which is the important control on a dart gun, because velocity has to be matched to the distance, the dart being used and the size of the animal, and a fixed-power gun cannot do that. It takes Clear Dart medicating and petite darts. A precision scope and mounting rings are supplied with it. Practise with it on a target before you need it, at the distances you actually expect to shoot, so that the power setting and holdover are known quantities rather than guesses in the moment. Look after the gas system, keep the barrel clean, and store darts where they will not be damaged. What is loaded into a dart, at what dose, and whether remote delivery is appropriate at all are decisions for your veterinarian.
