The point of a one-step product is honest and practical: most people will do one job on their tack and not two. Cleaning and conditioning as separate steps is better for leather, but a saddle that gets a proper one-step wipe every week is in far better shape than one waiting for the day you have time for the full routine. This cleans off sweat, dirt and old dressing while leaving conditioning oils behind, in one application. It suits the everyday wipe-down after riding — reins, billets, the underside of the saddle, the areas horse sweat gets at — and it suits people with a lot of tack and a limited amount of evening. Use it with a cloth or sponge, work it in, and buff the excess off. Buffing matters; conditioner left sitting on the surface stays tacky and picks up dust. The trade-off worth knowing is that a combined product does neither job to the standard of a dedicated one. It will not lift deeply ingrained grime the way a proper cleaning with saddle soap will, and it does not feed dry, neglected leather the way a heavy conditioner or oil does. So use it as maintenance, and when a saddle has been sitting in a shed for two years, go back to cleaning and conditioning separately. Do not use it on suede or rough-out. Test on an inconspicuous spot first on light or unusual leather, because any conditioner darkens leather to some degree. Keep the container closed and store it above freezing.
