Short answer: Masterfeeds' feeding chart for Happy Hound puts a 20 to 30 kg (44 to 66 lb) adult dog at 3 to 4¼ cups, or 300 to 425 g, a day. The High Energy chart puts the same dog at 2¾ to 3½ cups, or 275 to 350 g, a day. Masterfeeds' Happy Hound directions say: "If your dog is active, use the larger amount. Less active dogs should be fed the smaller amount." For cats, Masterfeeds says: "The average adult cat will usually eat one 8 oz cup of Masterfeeds Cat Stars per day."
Everything below is Masterfeeds' own feeding directions for the three pet foods we list, copied from masterfeeds.com, with a little arithmetic of ours clearly marked. It is a starting point, not a diet plan for your animal.

How much High Energy dog food to feed per day
Masterfeeds describes High Energy as a "High protein and energy, soy-free diet for active dogs". Its directions: "Feed adult dogs once or twice per day." and "The amount of food depends on the age, weight, activity level and temperament of the dog." Masterfeeds adds: "Your dog's age, activity level and environment may require adjustments to the amounts listed below."
Masterfeeds' High Energy chart (weight of dog, then cups and grams of food per day):
- 1 to 5 kg (2 to 11 lb): ¼ to 1 cup, 25 to 100 g
- 5 to 10 kg (11 to 22 lb): 1 to 1½ cups, 100 to 150 g

Masterfeeds lists one 8 oz (250 ml) cup of High Energy at 110 g, and its metabolizable energy at 3,718 kcal/kg (410 kcal per 250 ml cup). Guaranteed analysis: crude protein (minimum) 30.0%, crude fat (minimum) 20.0%, crude fibre (maximum) 4.5%, moisture 10.0%.
Why the High Energy amounts are smaller
The two charts are for different foods. Masterfeeds lists Happy Hound at 320 kcal per cup and High Energy at 410 kcal per cup, so its High Energy chart calls for fewer cups for a dog of the same weight. If you switch a dog from one food to the other, use the new food's chart rather than the old cup count.
How much Cat Stars to feed a cat per day
Masterfeeds describes Cat Stars as a "Complete balanced diet for cats at every stage". Its directions: "The average adult cat will usually eat one 8 oz cup of Masterfeeds Cat Stars per day." and "Start with one cup. If the food is not completely consumed, replace it with a fresh, but slightly smaller amount each day."
Masterfeeds' Cat Stars chart (weight of cat, then cups and grams of food per day):
- 2 to 4 kg (4 to 9 lb): ¼ to ½ cup, 30 to 55 g
- 4 to 6 kg (9 to 13 lb): ½ to ¾ cup, 55 to 80 g
- 6 to 8 kg (13 to 17.5 lb): ¾ to ⅘ cup, 80 to 90 g
- 8 to 10 kg (17.5 to 22 lb): ⅘ to 1 cup, 90 to 110 g
For kittens, Masterfeeds says: "When kittens are three to six weeks old, they should be fed one to two tablespoons of Cat Stars moistened with warm water, milk or broth." and "Gradually increase the amount of Cat Stars until kittens are weaned at around eight weeks of age." Its page also gives higher intakes for a pregnant or nursing cat; read the bag or ask your veterinarian.
Masterfeeds lists one 8 oz (250 ml) cup of Cat Stars at 110 g, and its metabolizable energy at 3,685 kcal/kg (405 kcal per 250 ml cup). Guaranteed analysis: crude protein (minimum) 31.0%, crude fat (minimum) 18.0%, crude fibre (maximum) 4.0%, moisture 10.0%.
